You may have seen a recent alert from An Garda Síochána about a new Apple iOS threat called DarkSword. This affects iPhones and iPads that are not fully updated.
Who is affected?
Devices running older or partially updated iOS versions are at risk. Devices on the latest iOS version are much better protected.
What is happening?
DarkSword is a serious exploit that can affect a device if you visit a compromised website or click a malicious link.
Attackers may be able to access messages, contacts, passwords, iCloud data and some apps without obvious signs.
What you should do now
- Update iOS immediately
Go to Settings → General → Software Update and install the latest update.
Leave Automatic Updates turned on.
- Be careful with links and websites
Avoid unexpected links in emails, texts or social media.
Only enter information on trusted websites.
- Consider Lockdown Mode (high risk users)
This adds extra protection but may limit some features.
