Christmas is coming….

Like it or not, Christmas is coming and Santa will start receiving lists from children soon. Some children out there may be looking for Laptops from Santa.

With such a vast range out there, just what should he be giving them. Well, in our opinion, Netbooks are a great starter computer and can be bought for approximately €240 up, not that Santa has to worry about prices.

A Standard Netbook will feature a 10inch Screen, 1GB of Ram, 250GB Hard Drive and a 1.6GHz Atom Processor. Windows 7 Starter will also be installed. Obviously these specification pale in comparison to a laptop, but a Netbook will happily browse the Internet, and, depending on the make or model, may well come with Microsoft Office 2010 Starter Edition allowing users to open and edit various documents and spreadsheets.

When buying a Netbook, don’t succumb to the sales person trying to sell you an Anti Virus package. As we have mentioned before, Microsoft have their Security Essentials package available for free from their website (microsoft.com). If you find that Microsoft Office 2010 Starter Edition is not installed or you need a more powerful package, check out Open Office, which we have also mentioned before. It can be downloaded for free from openoffice.org

Lastly, obviously you don’t want your son or daughter to accidentally find some of the more adult sites on the Internet. Check out the free K9 Web Protection software over at k9webprotection.com to give you some peace of mind.
